Trinity Health Updates Organizational Structure, Confers New Roles and Responsibilities on Executive Team Members
August 1, 2019LIVONIA, MICH., Aug. 2, 2019 – Trinity Health today announced key changes — and three new members — to its executive leadership team. The changes highlight innovation and both the patient and employee experience as among the system's highest priorities. As part of the changes, Trinity Health promoted Cassandra Willis-Abner to senior vice president, diversity and inclusion and chief experience officer and named Marcus Shipley as senior vice president Innovation and chief information officer. Mouhanad Hammami, M.D., senior vice president, safety net transformation, community benefit, and community health and well-being, is also joining the executive leadership team in addition to Willis-Abner and Shipley.
"I am very enthusiastic about what Casey, Marcus and Mouhanad can accomplish and the insights they bring to the rest of the executive leadership team," said Mike Slubowski, FACHE, FACMPE president and chief executive officer, Trinity Health. "They helped us lay the foundation for robust cultural and operational changes already and I look forward to seeing them help us continue to transform the holistic Trinity Health experience and create a trusting relationship with every person that connects with us for health. As a faith-based health system, we are committed to becoming a national leader in improving the health of our communities and each person we serve as the most trusted health partner for life."
Willis-Abner joined Trinity Health in October 2017 as vice president, diversity and inclusion (D&I), leading the design, development and implementation of the system's D&I strategic model, as well as its system-wide D&I-related plans, culture programs and services. In her new role, Willis' oversight of these initiatives will continue while she expands into clinical and operational areas, working to create and deliver an integrated, differentiating, inclusive and desirable care experience and work environment.
Prior to joining Trinity Health, Willis-Abner spent almost 20 years working for the University of Michigan Health System, now known as Michigan Medicine, serving as associate director, operations and service excellence and in roles where she directed activities ranging from managed care operations to customer service excellence. Earlier in her career, she served as director of operations at Omni Care Health Plan and as administrative director of Ambulatory Care Practices. Willis-Abner holds a master's degree in Health Services Management and Policy and a bachelor's degree in Organizational Behavior Studies/Development, both from the University of Michigan. Additionally, she serves on the board of the Wellness Plan Health Centers.
Shipley, now responsible for Trinity Health's commitment to driving innovation as a core capability and for overseeing the system's information services function, joined Trinity Health in 2012 to provide direction and oversight for information technology and to support the organization’s imperatives for improving quality of care, patient safety and financial performance. In his new role, he will broaden his focus, finding, originating and implementing new ideas and managing the process of innovation and change management throughout the system.
Shipley came to Trinity Health from CIGNA, a leading health services organization, where he served as vice president information technology, IT infrastructure and operations, and led infrastructure service delivery and quality. His almost 30 years in information technology includes leading solution delivery, infrastructure services and enterprise architecture for organizations including Fidelity, where he was chief information officer of Fidelity HR services, Claims Desk Corporation, where he was chief technology officer, and United Services Automobile Association, where he began his career as a programmer/analyst. He is an alumnus of the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he earned an MBA and a BBA in information technology.
Other changes in organizational structure were also made to improve unified program and project management.
