Trinity Health Philanthropy Services concluded 2022 by bringing together System Office colleagues during the season of gratitude and giving for a colleague giving campaign, Love Gives. Thanks to a generous outpouring of support from System Office colleagues, a total of $116,694 was raised – surpassing Philanthropy Services’ initial fundraising goal.

Love Gives took place alongside the holiday season, from November 1 – December 31, 2022, with donation opportunities for System Office colleagues to support:

  • System Office colleagues: The Colleague Emergency Assistance Program (CEAP)
  • Patients and communities experiencing poverty and other vulnerabilities: The Community Health and Well-Being Fund

“The generosity of our System Office colleagues that provides real financial support for other System Office colleagues in need is a most beautiful act of love and a sign of our Core Values in action,” said Mario Brunetta, Vice President, Mission Services. “The colleagues with whom I engage in the CEAP always express to me their deep gratitude for the sacrifices made by others and I join my gratitude to theirs. You may never know the full extent of the good that your donations do, but please be sure that the monies that you give are a lifeline for many in times of financial emergency. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”

"We are so grateful for the generous support of our colleagues to further our Mission of being a "transforming healing presence within our communities" by supporting Community Health & Well-Being Social Care programs,” said Jaime Dircksen, Vice President, Community Health & Well-Being. “Community Health & Well-Being is committed to optimizing health for people experiencing poverty and other vulnerabilities by meeting our patients in our facilities, in their homes and communities. Your meaningful gift supports our patients by removing barriers they have to gaining optimal health such as transportation to the doctor, financial assistance for prescribed medication and support to seek or maintain affordable housing. Thank you – your support is truly lifesaving!"

$90,390 was raised in support of the System Office CEAP and $26,304 has been raised for the Community Health and Well-Being Fund.

Colleague Assistance Fund

The Colleague Emergency Assistance Program (CEAP) is part of an overall wellness approach designed to nurture a culture that supports our ability to care for ourselves as well as we care for our patients. By caring for ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually, we can be at our best while we are at work and in other areas of our lives.

The CEAP helps alleviate financial stress for System Office colleagues in areas of need including food supply, medications, house fire, funerals, rent or house payment or utilities such as gas, electricity or water, essential transportation needs, medical bills, and travel associated with the approved items listed above to address the immediate extraordinary situation or need.

Colleagues eligible for support through the CEAP receive assistance through a grant, not repaid by the colleague, to a third-party vendor, or a pay-roll advance, which is repaid through payroll deductions over 9-12 months.

Thanks to support from generous donors, in FY21-22, there were 73 applications approved to help alleviate financial stress for colleagues, totaling more than $179,000.

Community Health and Well-Being Fund

The Community Health and Well-Being Fund directly supports services to patients and communities experiencing poverty and other vulnerabilities. Community Health and Well-Being teams listen, partner, and make it easy by sending Community Health Workers to identify and meet patients' social needs like access to food and housing; removing barriers to care and treatment plan adherence through peer-to-peer education and behavior change support; and collaborating with local organizations to understand community needs and make social change.

Better understanding our patients' health-related social needs leads to better care. In FY22, Trinity Health provided nearly 512,000 "social care encounters" across our system.

Here are some ways the CHWB Fund assisted patients:

  • On behalf of someone experiencing homelessness, who has diabetes - ensuring access to a refrigerator to safely store insulin
  • Assisting with searches and paperwork for permanent housing
  • Accompanying a visit to the county department for social services to apply for temporary housing assistance, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Coordinating emergency food availability
  • Preventing eviction
  • Providing culturally appropriate social support and coordination of care with clinicians
  • Coordinating medical transportation, allowing patient the ability to keep appointments

“The generosity from our System Office colleagues is truly heartwarming,” said Christine Hansen, Director, Philanthropy Strategy and Operations. “Every day, our colleagues display a commitment to our Mission through their work, and the outpouring of support we saw during Love Gives further demonstrates that dedication. The impact of these efforts truly cannot be understated. Every dollar raised makes a difference!”

While the Love Gives campaign has concluded for 2022, donations are gratefully accepted year round.
