Statement from President and CEO Mike Slubowski on ACA Ruling
June 16, 2021Trinity Health applauds today's Supreme Court's ruling in California v. Texas that will preserve health care coverage for 31 million people. In the 7-2 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that the plaintiffs did not have legal standing to challenge the Affordable Care Act (ACA), leaving the landmark legislation intact.
Trinity Health is committed to the principle that health care is a basic human right and that all Americans should have access to high-quality, comprehensive health care. Access to health insurance coverage is directly associated with improved access to care, lower mortality, better health outcomes and advances the common good. Research shows that the ACA has led to improved health status for Black and Latinx individuals, along with earlier, and therefore more treatable, cancer diagnoses. The ACA has also succeeded in slowing the health decline for at-risk residents in states that expanded Medicaid.
Trinity Health looks forward to working with policymakers to lower the uninsured rate and advance real solutions to make quality health care more accessible and affordable for everyone.
