Trinity Health Applauds Health Coverage Expansion Progress

Catholic Sisters, who founded Catholic hospitals well over one hundred years ago, were called to address the unmet needs of their communities. Consistent with that mission, Trinity Health believes one of the most effective ways to improve the health of the communities we serve is to expand access to comprehensive health insurance. Our goal is 100% coverage, and today we celebrate a significant milestone.
Recent data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services show the uninsured rate has declined to a historic low of 8.0%. We pause and celebrate with the millions of Americans who have recently gained coverage, including approximately 2 million adults with new marketplace health plans.
Trinity Health applauds the U.S. Senate for protecting recent coverage gains with passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). We encourage the U.S. House to quickly pass this important legislation to protect access to health insurance.
The IRA will ensure that health coverage remains affordable for millions of Americans who buy their insurance through the marketplace by extending the expanded Affordable Care Act subsidies. The American Rescue Plan temporarily extended these subsidies to individuals with incomes above 400% of the federal poverty level and made the subsidy more generous for those below 400%.
Trinity Health also supports the IRA provisions to lower prescription drug prices and reduce out-of-pocket costs for seniors. Unaffordable drug prices threaten patient access and health outcomes.
