Holding incredible power to influence public policy, advocates help to advance legislation at the local, state and federal levels. Engagement from board members, administrators, clinicians, support staff, patients and community members is critical to policy change.

Rooted in the Trinity Health Mission and traditions, advocacy is the hallmark of our foundational beginning. As Sister Mary Caritas, a Sister of Mercy from Massachusetts explains, “I learned early on in my health care administration career that one of the most valuable tools we have to assure the success of the ministry is Advocacy. It was a lesson well learned and I can attribute many successes to the value of letting our elected representatives know the facts and gain their support.”

Legislative successes from the last Congress (2021-22) include:
  • Medicare prescription drug costs were lowered for seniors.
  • Access to affordable health care for working families was protected with the extension of marketplace subsidies.
  • Medicaid was expanded to provide postpartum care for new moms and their infants.
  • New funding was secured for future pandemic preparedness, behavioral health services, and affordable housing.

These victories for our communities are due to advocates across the country who care for the common good. Raise your voice at: https://www.trinity-health.org/our-impact/advocacy/get-involved
