LIVONIA, MICH., November 26, 2021 – Trinity Health, one of the largest Catholic health systems in the U.S., today announced it has transitioned from its sponsorship and corporate membership in Buffalo, New York-based Catholic Health System, Inc. (CHS), effective November 6, 2021. The decision did not involve a financial transaction.

Since 1998, CHS has been sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, New York, and Trinity Health, through its merger with Catholic Health East. Earlier this month, the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph became Catholic Health's most recent corporate member.

"We are confident in Catholic Health's continued ability to bring high-quality, compassionate care to those it serves under the continued sponsorship of the Diocese of Buffalo and now, the Franciscan Sisters," said John Capasso, executive vice president of Continuing Care Group and Trinity Health's former representative on Catholic Health's Board of Directors." We are immensely proud to have been a sponsor and corporate member of Catholic Health."

"We are grateful to Trinity Health for sponsoring and supporting our system during its formative years and beyond," said Maureen Athoe, chairperson of Catholic Health's Board of Directors. "This transition will not impact our faith-based mission that brings healing and high-quality care to all and our ongoing commitment to lead the transformation of healthcare in Western New York."

Catholic Health will continue to work with Trinity Health through contractual relationships for the provision of certain services.
