How we care for the common good

Everyone should have access to high-quality, comprehensive health care. This is our truth as detailed in our Essential Elements that define health care transformation and that reflect our commitment to putting patients first. And it's why we advocate for public policies that Care for the Common Good.

When we say we are a Ministry of people caring for people, we mean the more than 30 million people, across the 26 states of our health care delivery system serves.

We accept that to improve the health of the communities we serve, we need to sustain our not-for-profit, faith-based mission, improve community health and grow our workforce.

Our leaders, colleagues, and stakeholders are dedicated to influencing public policies and regulatory issues to ensure we improve the health of each person we serve – especially those who are most vulnerable – so that we will continue to be the most trusted health partner for life.

We are committed to using our voice to:

Sustain our Not-For-Profit, Faith-Based Mission
The cost of operating health systems is increasing, yet payors are decreasing reimbursement and private equity is “cherry-picking” services critical to a positive margin. Additionally, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement should reflect the cost of delivering care and advance the right care, in the right setting, at the right time.

Improve Community Health
When 80% of our health is attributed to factors outside of a hospital, we must bridge clinical and social care to reduce chronic conditions and hospitalizations and ensure access to care which is critical.

Grow Workforce
Support is needed for health systems to grow the workforce pipeline and innovate care delivery.
